The Ethnographers

One day last year my best friend asked me "do you ever just feel like a participant observer? Like everyone around you is part of a whack-ass culture and you're just sitting back to watch?" "Every day," I replied.

  • Best Humble-Brag Ever!

Last night during Religion class, the professor was discussing what Freud and Jung would have to say about certain passages of the Dhammapada.  Then he paused, and the following awesome humble-brag came out:

“I studied under another psychologist.  He’s not as well known as those two, but we’ll talk about him a little later in the semester.  Some of you may have heard of him: Viktor Frankl.”

Then he just went on with his lecture.  No big deal, guys!  Viktor Frankl and I go way back!  Let’s talk about Buddha!

This guy has done everything.  He’s studied in Zen monasteries, worked with archaeologists in the holy land, did his undergrad at some crazy school in France where you had to ask your professors formally to take you on as a student.  His most recent works focus on the spiritual life of Van Gogh.  Can’t find his CV online, but rest assured, it would blow your mind. I’m barely passing this class, but I don’t even care because it’s so freaking awesome.
