There are no accidents
Yesterday over my lunch break I was scanning a really dull text on the I-Ching for a segment I could write up for a class assignment for my Eastern Religious Texts course.  I came across the use of the I-Ching in psychology and highlighted Jung’s opinion that the I-Ching was a great means of cultivating synchronicity.  He defined synchronicity as “a coincidence of events in space and...

You woke me up at 4 in the morning for this?
Kristen: Courtney? You awake
Courtney: (Groan.) Yeah.
Kristen: I just had a dream I was taking a class and that curly headed guy from 8 is Enough was the teacher.
Courtney: Willie Ames?
Kristen: Yeah! (Pause) How do you remember that?

Google Stalking: A series
I’ll be honest, I’m calling this a series, but chances are, I’ll just do this one post and forget about it.  But isn’t it a great idea?  Documenting the juicy crap you find out when you Google the crap out of someone?   So just this afternoon, the following thought popped into my head:  ”What was that guy’s name who would just come into our room freshman year...

Reading Days
Not sure how much reading I’m going to do on this Reading Days+ vacation we’re rocking this year.  Headed up to the MSP, gonna watch the Green Bay Packers, enjoy myself, celebrate Aaron’s engagement to Elen, eat midwestern food.  It’s going to be awesome. I’ll have to do some reading with my midterm coming up.  Our class has dwindled to under 20.  Very strange to...

Apocalypto Biker
Coming over the Lee Bridge this morning, I saw a man riding a bicycle wearing some kind of Mad Max getup.  He had ape hanger handlebars, a tall black hat, black fringed jacket, and he was riding the crap out of that bike.  It was a look, and he was rocking it.

Did you know Taoism is awesome?
Neither did I!  But it is!  You get to not give a shit about a whole lot of stuff, and right now, that’s filling a need in my life.  I need to not give a shit about a whole lot of stuff.  Also, I need to swear a lot.  A LOT. So here’s to embracing one’s inner Tao, Edina Monsoon style.  Taoist Namaste, bitch!

Crazy pose from yoga today →
Did something similar to this pose today in yoga.  Left hand was down, facing forward toward the left edge of the mat, right foot was angled out toward the front corner of the mat.  Right hand took left foot and left foot pressed into the hand to open the chest on the inhale.  On the exhale, the left elbow bent and the chest released toward the floor.  Except my chest barely released at all, but...

Best Humble-Brag Ever!
Last night during Religion class, the professor was discussing what Freud and Jung would have to say about certain passages of the Dhammapada.  Then he paused, and the following awesome humble-brag came out: “I studied under another psychologist.  He’s not as well known as those two, but we’ll talk about him a little later in the semester.  Some of you may have heard of him:...

This Pig Wants to Party →
It’s no longer a shock when hearing a story on NPR brings tears, (StoryCorps, I’m looking at you!).  However, I don’t ever recall reading an NPR story that moved me to tears.  This interview with Maurice Sendak of Where The Wild Things Are fame just wrecked me.  “When I did Bumble-ardy, I was so intensely aware of death,” he says. “Eugene, my friend and...
